Details

God ordered Jonah to go to the City of Nineveh to denounce the wicked ways of its' inhabitants. Fearing a hostile reception, Jonah tried to avoid the command by boarding a ship bound for the Phoenician City of Tarshish where he believed he could escape God's command. God raised a tempest and Jonah told the sailors to throw him overboard in order to calm the sea. There he was swallowed up by a great fish where he remained for three days and three nights. He prayed to God and was then released onto dry land. One of the most powerful stories from the Bible has been brought to life by Steinbach of Germany in this wonderful nutcracker.
