Details

Among the most joyful of M.I. Hummel motifs, this musician was crafted in 1938 by Master Sculptor Reinhold Unger. For more than 65 years, she's been kicking up her heels, strumming a merry tune on her mandolin, and earning a special spot in our hearts. The motif was first called "Wandersong" and then "Traveller's Song," until the simple yet meaningful name, Happiness , was finally selected to describe her. Happiness has changed a bit throughout the years - the size has varied, the shape of the base alternated between rectangle and square. And while in the newer versions, there's a lively upturn to one of her pigtails, some older versions depict her with both pigtails pointing demurely downward. This beloved M.I. Hummel figurine, as the name indicates, has certainly brought happiness into the lives of collectors the world over. She was chosen for retirement in 2004. The molds have been broken, and the figurine will never again be produced.
