In recent years the Snowboard has become the most popular cold-whether outdoor toy. This year, Department 56 found the source of all these boards at the North Pole, "Nollie & Ollie's Custom Snowboards". Appropriately, this alpine styled building was constructed into the side the hill, allowing each board to be tested just outside the front door. Included is elf figure, attached with a wire, midway through his test on the rail in front. The title of the building is taken from the 2 entrepreneurial elves, Nollie and Ollie, who started this storefront workshop. But also, Nollie and Ollie are types of maneuvers in the sport of snowboarding. Originating with Skateboarders, an Ollie is done with the back of the board. A Nollie is done on the front or nose of the board, nose ollie = nollie.The North Pole SeriesTM was inspired by the enduring legend of Santa Claus. Here, Santa and his elves busily prepare all sorts of toys for children everywhere. This hand-painted porcelain series began in 1990 and includes brightly colored buildings and fun-loving elves living in an enchanting frozen kingdom where snow never melts and Christmas never ends. Designed and manufactured exclusively for Department 56.
